This week we launched our newest youth report Maternal and Newborn Health: A Global Challenge drawn from the real life stories and data in the 2009 State of the World’s Children report. This is the second youth report we’ve developed in a continuing series devoted to the global challenges UNICEF is addressing every day.
The report's author did an excellent job extracting the core components of the State of the World’s Children report--highlighting the scope of the problem the countries that are most affected the main causes and what can be done. We’re really excited about this report!

What grade level was this developed for?
We developed the report and accompanying resources for an upper middle school and high school audience. However it really depends. As you know every school and classroom is different.
What subject area is this most appropriate for?
I’ve found that often internationally-focused content is grouped under the social studies umbrella. This is certainly true. However the youth report’s focus on health the numerous tables and charts the case studies and the international focus really make this report and its standards-ba
How can this be used in my classroom or afterschool program?
We compiled a variety of lessons with student-centered activities in our Educator’s Guide for your use. The report itself or pieces of the Youth Report and Educator’s Guide can be used in whatever way that best meets the needs of your students. Our goal is to have students begin to explore and discuss these critical issues that are impacting their peers around the world.
